Excision of adhesions |
Lead | |
|
Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or advice. My cons is v reluctant to operate due to risk of bowel damage but I wonder if something could be done to
help me. My pelvic organs are all stuck together & the whole mass is stuck to the front wall of my abdomen. I know it would be really difficult &
risky to attempt to untangle the lot, but am wondering if it would be possible for them to have a look & see if they could just make me a bit more
comfortable. My quality of life is pretty poor atm & I feel as if I'm running out of ideas.
Any thoughts/advice much appreciated. Sassy |

gap between laps | ||

I know that sounds daft but i had a lap in Aug 08 which was a bigger op than i hoped for then another in Nov 08 for adhesions. All was going well and now
the symptoms are back with a vengence. Can see this being a vicious cycle but i cant see any other way out than another lap to sort the adhesions and poss endo
out.

Hello - how approachable is your Consultant? are they the type you can have a free & frank discussion with without them getting defensive if you ask
questions?
I'm sure you've already done this, but definitely worth explaining carefully how much impact the current situation is having on your daily life - & asking if there's anything that can be done to ease situation by freeing some stuff up, even if it doesn't involve removing all adhesions/separating everything. Have they explained how much bowel damage could be caused & how permanent temporary the effects of any damage might be? I always think there is no harm in asking them to consider at least taking another look & assessing situation - surgical techniques are developing all the time, so just cos something wasn't feasible at one point, doesn't mean it will always be impossible. There is always the option to ask for a second opinion/ask if there's anywhere more specialist you could be referred to, but can appreciate that if this is a Consultant you have established a good, trusting relationship with, then you don't necessarily want to rush into introducing anyone else to the mix. I really hope there is something that can be done to help x x |

Thanks ladies. My first excision laparotomy was in nov 05 so it's been a few yrs. My cons has agreed to try & "unpick things" a bit with the
help of the colorectal cons who specialises in endo treatment. I'm going to ask about prevention of adhesions as this is a big problem for me. Will update
if I'm told anything useful after appt to discuss op.
